Good Neighbors of Groton: Middlesex Savings Bank

Banking locally. Investing locally. Growing together.

As GrotonFest Fall approaches, we’re celebrating the local organizations and businesses whose support helps make this community tradition possible. Through our Good Neighbor Campaign, we’re introducing the sponsors behind the festival—and sharing some of the ways they contribute to the community we all call home.

Today, we’re proud to introduce Middlesex Savings Bank.

More Than a Place to Bank

Conveniently located at 112 Boston Road in Groton, Middlesex Savings Bank is one of the largest mutually owned banks in the country, with more than 30 branches.

But what exactly does mutually owned mean?

Unlike a publicly traded bank, Middlesex Savings Bank doesn’t have shareholders or a stock price to answer to. Instead, as a mutual bank, its focus can remain on its customers and the communities it serves.

That philosophy shapes everything from personalized service and competitive rates to the bank’s ongoing investment in local communities.

And while the name may say “Savings Bank,” its services extend far beyond savings.

Middlesex Savings Bank helps individuals and families borrow, save, and plan for their futures, while also serving the businesses that contribute to strong local economies. As a top lender to small businesses, the bank provides services ranging from everyday business banking and cash management to commercial lending and commercial real estate lending up to $25 million.

In other words, they’re helping people build their futures—and helping local businesses build theirs.

When Your Community Is Part of Your Business

There is something particularly fitting about a community bank supporting a community festival.

For Middlesex Savings Bank, giving back to the neighborhoods it serves is an important part of what being a mutual bank means.

As their team explains:

“As a mutual bank, our focus is to support our neighborhoods and give back in ways that help everyone live better.”

That commitment takes many forms.

Middlesex Savings Bank provides financial support to local nonprofits and community-based organizations, while also helping high school students pursuing higher education through college scholarships.

But their involvement isn’t limited to writing a check.

Employees can also be found out in their communities, volunteering their time and getting involved with causes that matter to them.

It’s a combination of financial support and personal participation that helps turn a business located in a community into a business that is part of that community.

Showing Up for Groton

Here in Groton, that community commitment is easy to see.

Middlesex Savings Bank is a proud supporter of the GrotonFest family of festivals throughout the year, helping make the events that bring our neighbors together possible.

Their support also extends to other familiar Groton traditions, including the annual Groton Road Race, as well as other local community organizations.

These events are about much more than what happens on one particular day.

They create opportunities for neighbors to meet one another, families to spend time together, local organizations to connect with residents, and our community to celebrate the place we call home.

And they happen because local businesses and organizations choose to invest in them.

Local Businesses Helping Local Businesses

There is another side to community banking that we don't always see.

Behind many of the businesses that make a town vibrant are the financial relationships that help those businesses get started, grow, purchase property, manage cash flow, hire people, and plan for what comes next.

Middlesex Savings Bank works with small businesses across the region, providing banking and lending services designed to support their growth.

That matters because healthy local businesses help create healthy local communities.

The coffee shop, contractor, professional practice, retailer, entrepreneur, or growing company we see around town may represent someone's livelihood, someone's first job, or an idea that started small and grew into something much bigger.

Supporting those businesses is another way a community bank can invest in the long-term strength of the places it serves.

What Makes a Good Neighbor?

A good neighbor is invested in the future of the community around them. Sometimes that means helping a family plan for what's ahead. Sometimes it means giving a small business the resources it needs to grow. Sometimes it means supporting a student taking the next step toward college. And sometimes it means helping create the community events where all of those people can come together.

For Middlesex Savings Bank, those connections are part of what community banking is all about.

From supporting nonprofits and students to volunteering, helping local businesses grow, and supporting traditions like GrotonFest and the Groton Road Race, Middlesex Savings Bank continues to find ways to invest in the communities it serves.

We are grateful to have Middlesex Savings Bank as a supporter of the GrotonFest family of festivals and for the role they continue to play here in Groton.

Thank you, Middlesex Savings Bank, for investing in our community—and for being a Good Neighbor.

GrotonFest Fall’s Good Neighbor Campaign celebrates the businesses and organizations that help make Groton a wonderful place to live, work, gather, and belong. Follow along as we introduce more of the Good Neighbors in our community.
