Good Neighbors of Groton: The Groton Channel

Telling Groton’s stories. Capturing its moments. Giving our community a voice.

Some good neighbors support the events that bring our community together, others help make sure those moments are captured, shared, and remembered.

As part of our GrotonFest Fall Good Neighbor Campaign, we’ve been introducing the organizations and businesses that help make our community stronger. The Groton Channel has been a longtime supporter of the GrotonFest family of festivals—and an important presence at the events and moments that tell the story of our town.

So we thought it was time to turn the camera around and put the spotlight on the people who so often put the spotlight on Groton.

A CHANNEL FOR GROTON, ABOUT GROTON

Local media has a unique role to play in a community.

While larger networks understandably focus on what is happening across Massachusetts, the country, and the world, The Groton Channel gets to focus on us.

  • The meetings that shape our town.

  • The events that bring us together.

  • The people doing interesting things.

  • The conversations that matter locally.

  • And the everyday moments that make Groton distinctly Groton.

The Groton Channel describes its work through two missions:

1. Keep Groton informed.
To produce video content that helps residents stay informed about important aspects and events in Groton—past, present, and upcoming.

2. Give Groton a voice.
To provide residents with an avenue to express themselves creatively, educationally, and politically.

Together, those missions make The Groton Channel more than somewhere to watch local programming. It is a platform created for the community itself.

DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN CREATE SOMETHING TOO?

This may be one of the things about The Groton Channel that residents are least aware of:

Any Groton resident can produce their own content through The Groton Channel without a monetary fee.

  • Have an idea for a program?

  • Something you'd like to teach?

  • A local story you think should be told?

  • A creative project you've been thinking about?

  • The Groton Channel can help residents of all ages turn ideas into video content.

As the team puts it:

“It gives us great pride to be able to help residents of any age bring their ideas to life through video production.”

There are also a variety of volunteer opportunities available for residents who would like to get involved.

And Groton's stories aren't limited to Groton. The channel's content is available online, which means former residents, family members, friends, and anyone interested in our community can watch from almost anywhere.

MEET THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE CAMERAS.

It takes a dedicated team to keep it all running. That team includes Ashley Doucette, Program Director; Noah Paulajka, Production Coordinator; and Ashley Wickfield, Production Assistant.

Together, they work tirelessly behind the scenes—sometimes quite literally—to capture the events, conversations, and stories that shape Groton and bring them to our screens.

WHY LOCAL STORYTELLING MATTERS

There's something special about having people whose job is to pay attention to what is happening right here.

Communities aren't only built through major decisions or big events.

They're built through school performances and local celebrations. Town meetings and community conversations. Traditions passed from one year to the next. New ideas. Familiar faces. Volunteers. Organizations. And neighbors showing up for neighbors.

When those moments are documented, they become part of our collective memory.

That's something The Groton Channel has been doing for our community for years.

And it's one of the reasons their continued support of the GrotonFest family of festivals means so much to us.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD NEIGHBOR?

A good neighbor helps people feel connected. They create space for people to be heard, help us understand what is happening around us, and remind us that every community is made up of individual voices and stories worth sharing.

That is what makes The Groton Channel such an important part of Groton. They don't simply document our town—they give our town a voice.

They provide a place where residents can share ideas, learn from one another, participate in local conversations, celebrate community moments, and tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.

And in doing so, they help connect us—not only to what is happening in Groton today, but to the people, events, and stories that shape who we are as a community.

Thank you to Ashley, Noah, Ashley, and The Groton Channel for helping Groton stay informed, connected, and heard.

Thank you for being a Good Neighbor.
