Eric McGranaghan – Craftsmanship, Community, and the Spirit of Groton
One of the things that makes GrotonFest so special isn't just the music, the food, or the activities—it's the people.
Throughout the year, countless neighbors, volunteers, local businesses, and organizations quietly invest their time, talents, and resources to make Groton a stronger, more connected community. As we celebrate National Good Neighbor Day alongside GrotonFest Fall 2026, we'd like to shine a light on some of those people through a series we're calling Neighbor Spotlights.
Our first spotlight is someone many Groton residents already know.
Meet Eric McGranaghan
For years, Eric McGranaghan has been a valued supporter of the GrotonFest Family of Festivals. If you've ever attended one of our events, you've probably seen our volunteers proudly wearing their GrotonFest shirts. Those shirts have been made possible through Eric and McGranaghan Inc., whose generosity has helped our volunteers represent the festival with pride year after year.
But Eric's contribution to Groton goes well beyond festival apparel.
He's the kind of neighbor who is always willing to lend a hand, support local events, and celebrate everything that makes our town unique.
Wearing Groton with Pride
One of the things we admire most about Eric's work is how deeply connected it is to Groton itself.
Many of his hats, patches, apparel, and custom products proudly feature the Groton name, giving both residents and visitors an opportunity to carry a piece of our community wherever they go. Whether someone is traveling across Massachusetts or across the country, they're taking a little bit of Groton with them.
That kind of hometown pride is something worth celebrating.
From Curiosity to Craftsmanship
Eric describes himself simply as someone who enjoys learning new skills.
He started a small custom apparel and leathercraft shop in Groton after teaching himself screen printing from the ground up. Once he mastered that craft, he challenged himself to learn leatherworking as well. Through patience, experimentation, and countless hours in his workshop, he developed the skills to create handcrafted leather products built to last.
Eventually, one project stood out above the rest.
He wanted to design a wallet that was simple, rugged, and comfortable—something equally at home in a boardroom or around a campfire. He carefully stripped away everything he felt wasn't necessary until only the essentials remained. The result became Captain Snappy, a handcrafted minimalist wallet made one at a time in Groton from premium leather.
Each wallet is laser engraved, hand finished, assembled with care, and built to develop character with every year of use.
The Story Behind Captain Snappy
Like many great ideas, the name has a story.
As a child, Eric went on a deep-sea fishing trip in Fort Pierce, Florida, where the boat's mascot was named Capt. Snappy. After catching a 30-pound red snapper and bringing home a memorable T-shirt, the name stayed with him for years.
When it came time to name his wallet, it immediately came back to him.
With its nautical roots, playful personality, and the signature snap closure on every wallet, Captain Snappy felt like the perfect fit.
More Than a Sponsor
